Officials have not shared many details on the incident yet. PEOPLE shares some of the few facts that are known. We know that the incident took place on Sunday, Nov. 30, around 11:40 a.m. The outlet shares that that is the time that "HM Coastguard was alerted that a man fell into the English Channel off the coast of Newhaven."
The Coast Guard led a search to find the man, and they did. Alas, it was a body they recovered from the sea rather than a life. Authorities told the outlet that the body was identified, and police informed his next of kin. Besides offering their condolences, police offered no further information on the case. They explained that "no further details are available at this stage."
Hopefully, the matter will be looked into properly, and this man's family can get some answers. After all, I am sure they want to know why the man fell off the luxury yacht, and to his death.
Not The First Incident Of Its Kind
Unfortunately, people falling overboard is not entirely uncommon. Although it does not always result in death, it is always a terrifying experience. Over the summer, there was another tragic boating incident when a New Jersey doctor fell overboard from the boat he was on. After falling off the boat, that very same boat then ran straight into him, causing serious injuries. Unfortunatley for the doctor, he later succumbed to those injuries.
Similarly, earlier this month, an elderly man tragically fell to his death on a Disney Cruise Line. Similar to the story that just happened on the 30th, a man fell overboard and died from the accident. A cruise passenger spoke out about how somber the entire situation was. Falling overboard is never a good thing. Unfortunately, the man who fell off the luxury yacht is yet another tragic accident to the long list.
As I said previously, hopefully they find answers for him and his family. Furthermore, hopefully they use those answers and the answers they got from these other cases to make boat travel even more safe and lessen the chances of more people falling overboard.
