Cat Who Escaped During Road Trip Miraculously Survives 5 Months Alone In Rockies

A cat has done the impossible and survived for more than five months in the Northern Rockies. After getting loose on a road trip, the feline was lost in the wilderness.

Now, it is finally heading home. Speaking with CBC, Jeremy Barton explained that he took a trip with his cat, Shadow. Unfortunately, while stopping at Liard Hot Springs Provincial Park, the cat got free and disappeared.

"I started freaking out. I started walking around with his food bowl," Barton said. Sadly, Barton had to leave and move on. He told his two sons that Shadow was missing. "It was pretty devastating. They both cried for a couple of days."

Cat Survives

For five months, the feline remained missing. Then suddenly, Shadow reappeared at the park. Somehow, the animal had survived for months in the Rockies. Two people volunteered to drive the cat to Oklahoma for a long waited reunion.

"He was going to drive up from Oklahoma to Winnipeg, and I was going to fly to Winnipeg with the cat or fly down to Oklahoma City," Christine Sutherland told the outlet. Sutherland Bruce Kosugi decided to drive the animal to their home in Fort St. John. Kosugi wore a mask for the 8 hour drive because he was allergic to cat.

Then Sutherland flew Shadow to Winnipeg to reunite the animal with Barton. Barton then drove more than 16 hours back to Oklahoma with the animal. It honestly sounds like quite the undertaking. But the pet owner was glad to be reunited with Shadow after all thsi time.

"You can never do too much, you know, when it comes to helping families at any time of year in any kind of distress," Sutherland told CBC. "This cat meant a lot to those two boys. And it's so neat that they're going to see him before Christmas."
