The NY Post shared details from the case. Michael Virgil was a 35-year-old father from California. He was enjoying the cruise with his fiancée when things got a bit out of hand. According to the outlet, Virgil was "served 33 drinks at one of the ship's bars on the day that he died." Due to the massive amount of alcohol, he became a bit unruly.
Due to his "drunken rage," he was detained by the cruise ship's security. While he was being detained, he had a blood alcohol level of "0.182 to 0.186 percent." However, it was not the alcohol that killed him. His fiancée, Connie Aguilar, claimed that the ship security injected him with a sedative after his rampage.
Crew members tackled Virgil after he became belligerent and stood atop his body, administering their full weight. Afterward, they administered the sedative injection. Additionally, they sprayed him with multiple cans of pepper spray. The autopsy report showed that "he was held down for three minutes before he was cuffed and taken to the ship's medical center, still breathing."

The autopsy also revealed that Virgil died of "significant hypoxia and impaired ventilation, respiratory failure, cardiovascular instability, and ultimately cardiopulmonary arrest, leading to his death, which has been ruled a homicide." While his death is traumatizing and horrific on its own, what happened to him afterward was equally shocking.
According to the outlet, Aguilar begged for the cruise ship to return to port after her fiancé's passing, but they refused. Instead, they placed his body in the refrigerator and continued the cruise for multiple days afterward.
