Chaos broke out on a flight after passengers spotted a small stowaway thousands of feet in the air. Somehow, a rat had smuggled its way in the plane cabin.
Being in close quarters with a rat would be an uncomfortable experience by itself. But imagine being stuck with one with hundreds of strangers, and you're trapped way in the sky. Passengers spotted the rodent on the KLM Royal Dutch Airlines plane. The flight had been headed to Aruba. However, many people's vacations started on a less-than-pleasant note.
According to The Independent, passengers first spotted the rat crawling on the curtain rails of the plane's cabin. However, it made chaos on the flight soon after. The rodent jumped into the overhead bins and began making its way through the cabin. It was not a short flight. The plane was headed from Amsterdam to Aruba. That's a 10-hour flight.
Rat On A Plane
A representative for KLM explained, "This was a very exceptional incident."
"Passengers remained calm, and the staff kept a close eye on the animal," the spokesperson said, so no one lost their cool. The representative also noted the rat didn't come near the food. However, I wouldn't trust airline food on the best day, much less with a rodent on board.
After landing, the crew canceled the return flight on Dec. 10 from Aruba to Amsterdam. "The aircraft could be thoroughly cleaned before being put back into service," the spokesperson added.
