Pit Bull Found Chained To Tree In Woods In Freezing Conditions, Rescued By Kind Stranger

A pit bull mix is lucky to be alive after being abandoned to the elements. Fortunately, the kindness of a stranger rescued the poor pooch from certain death.

Someone chained the dog to a tree in the woods outside Amsterdam, New York. Imprisoned by the chain, the animal would have froze to death in the winter weather. However, a stranger walking his dog heard a dog barking in the woods. He found the white pit bull mix chained to a tree and rescued it.

The Amsterdam Police Department also detailed what happened.

"Had the man not seen him, the dog would have frozen to death," authorities said. They revealed that someone had chained the pit bull to a tree with a metal chain. Police managed to free the animal with bolt cutters after being called. They then took the animal to SPCA for care and treatment.

Pit Bull Rescued

Now, authorities are looking for who did this. They're offering a $1,000 reward for "any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible." Whoever did this is facing felony charges for leaving the pet bull to freeze to death.

"Anyone seeing a dog tied outside in bad weather, especially in an area it shouldn't be, should contact their local police department immediately," the police department told the public.

Police also said, "The individual or individuals responsible for abandoning this dog must be brought to justice. They will be facing felony charges. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Amsterdam Police Department at 518-842-1100. Calls will be kept confidential."

Sadly, it's not the first time that someone has tied a dog to something and abandoned it. In Washington, someone abandoned a dog named Binny inside a suitcase in a dumpster.

"There was rope around her, she was tied into a suitcase, and that suitcase had been dumped into a dumpster," Everett Police Officer CJ Hawley told KOMO News.

Meanwhile, another person abandoned their dog to flood waters in the middle of a hurricane by tying it up. All three cases show the heartlessness some feel towards their pets.
