Moose Garners A Wild Nickname After Wandering Around Wyoming

A moose has garnered a reputation and a wild nickname for itself. The animal has regularly been sighted wandering around Wyoming.

Let me introduce you to Big Betty.

The moose has made itself at home around the town of Evanston. Residents have enjoyed the sightings, and so far, the animal has been very calm around people.

"She's very calm. It's kind of odd. She's just so mellow and peaceful," Evanston resident Patty Ann Cote told Cowboy State Daily. It's not completely rare for a moose to make an occasional venture into town. Evanstone is located near a moose habitat. But Big Betty appears to be making more than the occasional appearance.

Big Betty The Moose

Some locals ended up calling the authorities on the animal. However, cops determined that Big Betty wasn't a threat. So the animal lingered for a month before leaving town. She became a bit of a viral star online.

"She's just been making her way all over town, she does not even care that there are houses, cars driving, and people walking. She doesn't care. This is her town, and nobody else's," Cote said.

The animal enjoyed strolling down the streets and hanging out in people's yards. It's nice to write about a moose story that didn't end in violence. The animals can be aggressive, so being so close to humans could be a recipe for disaster. In this case, Big Betty proved to be a calm and chill creature.

But that's not always the case. In 2023, Wyoming officials had to tranquilize a bull moose after it showed up at an elementary school. In that case, they released the animal. But just last year, a hunter killed a cow moose after it charged him while trying to protect its calves. The animal became extremely aggressive by the presence of the hunter.
