Savannah Guthrie's mother is missing in Arizona. The popular Today host took off from her usual gig on the NBC morning talk show to aid in the search for her mom, Nancy.
Instead, Sheinelle Jones filled in for Guthrie this morning. Following the absence, Guthrie explained that her mom is missing and hasn't been seen in two days. She released a statement asking for prayers during this difficult time.
"On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support," the statement read. "Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom. We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff's Department at 520-351-4900."
Additionally, a Guthrie family spokesperson told the New York Post, "We can confirm this is a missing persons case, and the family is working closely with local law enforcement. If anyone has any information, please contact the Pima County Sheriff's Department at 520-351-4900. The family is grateful for the outreach, thoughts, and prayers."
Savannah Guthrie's Mom Missing
Nancy's family last saw her at her Catalina Foothills home on Saturday. The following day, her family reported her missing. Pima County Sheriff's Office described her as "not of good physical health."
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos also gave more insight into the search for Nancy.
"We've pretty much thrown everything at this as we can," Nanos said. "I don't need to tell you, this is very concerning to us; we don't typically get the sheriff out on a scene like this, but it is very concerning."
The news comes just a week after Savannah Guthrie's return to the Today show. The news anchor had been absent for weeks due to vocal cord surgery.
"I'm so grateful to all of you at this place and my bosses at NBC, who have been nothing but supportive. To take three weeks off is a big, big deal," she said while on the show. "I'm so grateful to be back, and I'm ready to go."
