A couple is making a splash by getting married in a YMCA swimming pool. But for the Illinois duo tying the knot, the pool holds special significance. It's where they actually met.
Both 82-year-old Edward LaRue and 78-year-old Marlene Parsons got married in style in a very unique wedding. But it helps to know that the two first met while doing a water aerobics class together at their local YMCA. According to First Alert 4, the two decided to get married at the very same swimming pool where those sparks first flew.
It's all kind of fitting, really. The two were married on November 12 at the Collinsville Maryville Troy YMCA in the middle of the swimming pool. They had a small group of friends and family for the ceremony. Alie Morgan, the center's aquatics director, actually officiated the ceremony making it even more special.
For the wedding, the group wore wedding-themed swimsuits that mimicked traditional garb. It's honestly kind of perfect. They walked down the swimming pool holding hands and recited their vows together. You can see photos shared on Facebook. It's wonderful that they could find a special way to hold a wedding that's unique to them.
"What a beautiful day for a wedding in our pool!" the YMCA wrote on Facebook. "Congratulations to our members Ed and Marlene [who] were married in our pool today surrounded by family and friends. Our very own Alie Morgan even officiated the ceremony!"
"We wish you years of love and happiness!" theyalso added.
Meanwhile, LaRue commented, "Great time was had by all. Especially the bride and groom."
Married In YMCA Swimming Pool
Speaking to First Alert 4, Parsons revealed they met at a water aerobics class. From that moment, they were flirting in the pool with lots of splashes.
"I liked him," she said. "We splashed each other in the pool."
Ultimately, they ended up going on their first date in December 2023. It comes after both lost their previous spouses a few years prior. They were hesitant to tie the knot again.
"We really didn't want to get married because we had both lost someone," Parsons said.
However, that didn't stop them and their love from growing.
