A detention sergeant has tragically died in a freak hunting accident. He was hunting with his friend in Montana when a weapon went off and shot him.
The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that Detention Sergeant Michael Flohr has died. He passed away in a hunting accident in Magpie Gulch. Flohr had gone hunting with a friend. But as they were storing their weapons, one of the guns went off killing the detention sergeant.
Gallatin County Sheriff Dan Springer told The Bozeman Daily Chronicle that it was a terrible tragedy and everyone was mourning.
"He was incredibly bright and was well-versed in our reference management system, probably more than anyone else in the sheriff's office, and was one of those people who was so intelligent he was never afraid to go learn about something," the sheriff told the Chronicle. "Michael was just one of those really kind-hearted souls who understood the value of his job."
Detention Sergeant Dies
Meanwhile, several people in the community mourned the death of the detention sergeant.
"I got a phone call Saturday that broke my heart," Chaplain Kathi Gregoire wrote on Facebook. "The loss of Mike is devastating for so many. I am a better person because I have been [a] chaplain to Mike and so many like him."
"Our group chat was always [an] entertaining part of my day, your willingness to help is uncompared," Dixon wrote.
"You are truly missed by so many, and it was a pleasure being able to call you not only my friend, but my brother," Dixon also added. "Rest easy, love you."
According to the sheriff's office, the entire community is "rallying around the entire Flohr family and pulling together as we mourn the loss of an exceptional leader, officer, husband, father, and friend."
