A small European country is suffering a drought, although it is not the typical kind that you would expect. This drought has nothing to do with a lack of rain; instead, it is a lack of men. That's right, this country is suffering a male shortage. It is so bad that women are now renting out their husbands for hire.

Latvia is suffering a nationwide shortage of men. The NY Post shared that it is most likely due to the fact that men don't live as long. More often than not, they are smokers, overweight, and generally lead unhealthier lifestyles. Therefore, the country "boasts 15.5% more women than men." While most of the women are fine with having a majority of female companions, it does come with a few drawbacks.
First and foremost, Dania, a single resident of Latvia, shared that men make things more fun. "There's nothing wrong with that..." meaning having mostly female friends. "But just for the good balance, you would want to have some more men to flirt or chat with," she shared. Additionally, the male shortage makes some household tasks more challenging. However, the women of Latvia have found a solution to that as well.
Women Rent Out Their Husbands For Hire
Rather than roughing it themselves, women have turned to platforms that allow them to rent out their husbands for a few hours a day. While that may sound scandalous, it is not what you think. The men simply come over to help with otherwise difficult household chores. Activities such as plumbing, carpentry, repairs, and mounting a TV. There is no flirting, no awkward pick-up lines, just a friendly smile and the service.
While it seems like something out of the ordinary, it has become quite a lucrative business. One woman and her husband became so successful that they booked up for an entire month and had to start turning down jobs. Her husband just heads over to other ladies' homes and does things like hanging the curtain or fixing the sink. Then he comes home with heavier pockets. It is a win-win for everybody.
