When thinking of the world's most dangerous volcanoes, I am sure you imagine the largest of them. When thinking of something dangerous, I expect it to be large, or at least well-known. However, experts are now revealing that that is not necessarily the case. As experts begin to ring the warning bell over the most dangerous volcanoes, people are surprised to learn that they are hidden hotspots.
Experts Warn About The Most Dangerous Volcanoes

Apparently, volcanoes are like farts...it is the silent ones that are deadly. All jokes aside, Mike Cassidy, a professor of geography and environmental science at the University of Birmingham, spoke on the matter. In a recent piece for The Conversation, he shared that it is over these "overlooked" or "hidden" volcanoes that erupt more frequently.
While most people worry about big-name volcanoes like Yellowstone, these smaller, hidden volcanoes pose a much greater threat. What makes these the most dangerous volcanoes is not just the fact that they erupt frequently. Additionally, it is a fact that they appear dormant; therefore, they are barely monitored. Then, he shared this staggering statistic. "In regions like the Pacific, South America, and Indonesia, an eruption from a volcano with no recorded history occurs every seven to ten years."
How These Volcanoes Are Affecting The World
Just because these volcanoes are not as well-known does not mean that they do not pose a risk to the world. On the contrary, Cassidy argues that these might be some of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. He argued that they do not just affect the surrounding communities but that they can "also cause a butterfly effect that's felt across the world."
Some of those effects can include "drastic temperature changes and monsoon disruptions." Both of which impact agriculture across the world, which can result in "famine, disease, and major social upheaval." So when thinking of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world, remember, size isn't everything.
