A family of four has tragically died on vacation from suspected food poisoning. The parents and their two young kids fell ill after eating street food in Turkey.
Returning to their hotel in Istanbul, they fell ill on November 11. They had been just two days into their vacation. The family tried a street food called midye, which is stuffed mussels served with lemon. They also ordered several local meals at a restaurant, including kokorec and tavuk tantuni.
Finally, they ate Turkish delights from a shop as well. However, after returning to the hotel, they began to experience food poisoning. First, the children named Masal Kadi began throwing up. Their parents, Cigdem Bocek and Servet, took them to the hospital. But they soon began feeling the same symptoms as well.
Food Poisoning Case
The hospital discharged them, and the family returned back to their hotel. Hours later, the mom and children died from food poisoning. The father passed away at the hospital the following day. Istanbul's Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating the suspected food poisoning. So far, they've detained seven people in the case.
The family of the four has demanded to know what caused them to fall ill. Meanwhile, according to Bild, two other tourists at the same hotel ended up at the hospital with the same symptoms.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, "The investigation is currently being carried out comprehensively. It will be revealed what caused the deaths."
So it remains to be seen if it was indeed food poisoning or something that's going on at the hotel that caused the family to get sick and die. It wouldn't be the first time tourists have fallen sick on vacation. Food poisoning, especially botulism, can be extremely deadly. Botulism is caused by the Clostridium botulinum bacteria. The toxins from the bacteria enter the body through improperly contained food. It remains to be seen if that is the case with these four.
Further investigation and tests will be needed.
