If you have ever used Airbnb, then you know that each lodging is unique. They all have their own unique style and rules. Whether it is how they want you to clean up or whether pets are allowed, each location has certain protocols that guests need to follow. Most of the time, they are routine and expected; however, this one Airbnb had a unique set of rules. Furthermore, these guests were surprised to find a very specific rule regarding the bed in their Airbnb.
Very Specific Rule In The Airbnb

A couple was staying in an Airbnb in Istanbul when they noticed something particular about their lodging. While it was tidy and styled nicely, it had some interesting signs around the Airbnb. Most notable was the sign in the bedroom, plastered on the bed. The couple shared a photo of the bed and the sign in a Reddit post. The sign read, "Use only to sleep/no other activities."
The man who shared the photo commented under the post, "Came here with my wife. Oh well." While this sign was by far the most interesting and specific rule in their Airbnb, it was not the only one. Later on in the post, the man shared another photo. This photo was of the TV remote, and it also had a sign taped to it. That sign read, "Use only to turn the TV on/off." I didn't realize there was another purpose for the remote?
The Reasoning For The Bizarre Rule
While I understand the rules around no pets or additional guests, these two shocked me a little bit. Additionally, it made me curious what had happened in the past for this to be a specific rule that the Airbnb host makes sure to mention to their guests. The NY Post shared that it was apparently due to noise complaints from the neighbors.
The next-door neighbors are supposedly very sensitive to noise, so I guess very annoying guests or people who listen to the TV too loudly disturb them. The couple shared that while the rules were strange, they did not deter them from enjoying their stay at all. The internet, of course, had varying reactions. Here are some of the comments left under the Reddit post.
- "I feel like this means they aren't planning to wash the sheets."
- "Is there one on the kitchen table, couch, or other suitable locations? If not...well, there's your opportunity."
- "What about eating and maybe making a little fort?"
