New details have surfaced in the death of a Texas man who passed away during a horrific flood earlier this summer. Clinging to a tree, he told a 911 dispatcher that he didn't think he would survive.
The Associated Press shared the haunting call from a Texas man, Bradley Perry. On the phone, he asked if a helicopter was close to saving him. He said the tree he was in was "starting to lean, and it's going to fall." He then told the dispatcher, "I've probably got maybe five minutes left."
Sadly, the tree did give way before help arrived and the Texas man drowned. Prior to his death, Perry thought his wife had died after the flood washed away their RV. But miraculously, she did survive. The two had been camping in their RV in Kerrville when rains caused massive flooding in the area.
Texas Man Drowns In Flood
Bradley, a former volunteer firefighter for League City, climbed a tree to avoid floodwaters. however, the tree gave way, and the Texas man drowned. Prior to his death, he managed to call his 20-year-old son. he told him, "I'm in a tree. Your mom is gone. I got to go." The Texas man became more than 130 killed after the Guadalupe River swelled and overflowed.
Many passed away at Camp Mystic, an all-girls camp near the river. A 911 call from the camp detailed the horrors from that day. "We're OK, but we live a mile down the road from Camp Mystic and we had two little girls come down the river. And we've gotten to them, but I'm not sure how many others are out there," a woman said on the phone.
After the 911 calls went public, the police released a statement.
"The Kerrville Police Department continues to hold the families, loved ones and friends of those lost on July 4th close to our hearts," police said in the video's caption. "If you or someone you know needs support, please remember that resources are available."
