Security Guard Drove Car onto Taxiway and Sped by Multiple Airplanes

A security guard drove a car onto a taxiway and sped alongside multiple airplanes. It led to a chaotic scene in Santa Ana at John Wayne Airport.

The incident happened on December 8. A contract security guard at an airfield security checkpoint suddenly drove a vehicle onto the taxiway. Speeding down the taxiway, they came close to several planes. Speaking with People, a spokesperson for the airport, AnnaSophia Servin, opened up about the incident.

"Due to the subject's erratic behavior, deputies requested a medical assessment by the Orange County Fire Authority," the spokesperson told the outlet. "The individual was evaluated on scene and determined to be experiencing a possible medical emergency."

An airport worker named Rijken Vanderweide captured the incident on video. In the video, a white sedan sped down the taxiway. Several yelled for the driver to stop. A sheriff's car chased after the speeding security guard.

Chaotic Scene On Taxiway

"Southwest 1057 hold position, there's a high-speed chase on the taxiway," the controller said, according to the outlet.

Fortunately, the situation ended without injury. After entering the taxiway, the police managed to stop the unidentified security guard. They detained the person. But it appears the security guard needed medical attention. They ended up transporting them to a nearby hospital. Currently, the driver remains under medical observation.

We hope that they're okay. But the extreme actions of the security guard have resulted in them being suspended from their post.

Servin adds, "The employee has been placed on suspension pending final review of the incident."
