Who let the dogs out? Senior dogs will have their own float at the 2025 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. That's right, the Freida the Dachshund balloon float is back.
It's the first time in 13 years that the float will be seen on the streets of New York City. The pet food brand, The Farmer's Dog, is bringing Freida back. Now, Freida is a senior dog and is repping senior dogs everywhere in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Freida has been around for years, first appearing in 1949.
But the float has been irregular over the years. Prior to this year, the float has disappeared for 13 years. But The Farmer's Dog wanted to celebrate senior dogs.
Senior Dogs At Macy's
"Senior dogs hold a special place in our hearts. As dogs age, they trade their puppy energy for something deeper—a quiet wisdom and a gentle, unconditional love that only comes with time," The Farmer's Dog CEO and co-founder, Jonathan Regev, told People.
"That's why we're excited to partner with Macy's to bring Freida back to the 99th Parade this year. We want to remind people how special senior dogs are, and emphasize how they can still thrive with the right nutrition and care. Through our new Freida's Friends program, we're helping senior dogs up for adoption find the loving forever homes they deserve. They remind us to treasure each day, and our goal is to help them see many more," he added.
As part of the relaunch of the float, The Farmer's Dog has tweaked the original design. Instead of being a traditional parade balloon, she will appear as a balloonicle. Balloonicles require fewer people to operate and have cold air instead of helium. Still, expect Freida to make quite the entrance at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
