Texas Couple Warns About Bobcats After Wild Animal Killed Their Dog

A Texas couple is warning others about bobcats after one of the wild animals killed their dog, Luna.

On November 29, Melissa Clark said her beloved Luna, a white Maltese pooch, had been playing in the backyard. That's when a bobcat appeared in the yard and attacked Luna. Sadly, the small dog passed away from her injuries Luna's death devastated Melissa and her husband, Paul Clark.

Now, they're hoping their tragedy can warn others about bobcats. Melissa explained that she was just a few feet away from Luna when the attack happened. She said the bobcat jumped over her fence and attacked the dog.

Bobcats In the Area

"The bobcat jumps on the fence, then jumps on a tree, then goes up... with Luna in her mouth," Melissa told CBS News, "At this point, I thought Luna was gone. But that wasn't the case."

The pet owners found Luna severely injured in a nearby bush. Despite rushing her to the emergency vet, there was nothing that they could do for the animal. Melissa said that she was with her dog when she died. She said, "I looked into her eyes until she took her last breath, and she knew I loved her."
Sadly, this isn't the first time bobcats were spotted in the area. Prior to the death of the dog, neighbors had reported seeing three bobcats in the area. It seems that reports of the animals are becoming more and more common. The likely reason is due to the erosion of nature, thanks to urban development. This causes animals like bobcats to rub shoulders with humans. Sadly small animals like dogs pay the price.

On A GoFundMe, the couple expressed a desire to keep Luna's legacy alive by educating others.

They wrote, "With our family's new mission to make our neighborhood safer, we felt it was important to change the title of our GoFundMe. We want it to truly reflect Luna's impact and ensure her loss was not in vain. Luna's story now has a purpose — to help protect families and pets here in Frisco. Her legacy will be safety, awareness, and preventing this tragedy from happening again."
