Video Goes Viral After Uber Driver Refuses Ride To Passenger Over His Size

Drama has ensued online after an Uber driver went viral for how she handled an interaction with a passenger. In summary, the Uber driver refuses to give a ride to a passenger due to their size. The passenger did not take kindly to the insinuation that he was too large to ride, and the situation escalated from there. See how the internet is reacting.

Uber Driver Refuses Ride To Passenger Over His Size

An Uber driver is now facing severe backlash after denying a passenger a ride for being too "fat" to fit in her vehicle. The NY Post shared that the client was Michael, a Twitch star who goes by the name @FattyMcFatFuh on X. The encounter between the pair was documented on Michael's X account. The video, which now has over 50 million views, started off by showing the Uber driver looking frazzled.

"No, you are not recording me right now," she stated.

To which Michael replied, "I am going to record you. You just said I am too large for your car?"

Rather than confirming or denying that she was refusing him a ride due to his size, she decided to state what she considered to be facts.

"This is a matter of logic and rationale," she began, "and I have a right to say that."

To which Michael quickly shot her down by saying, "No, you don't."

Unfortunately, the Uber driver's refusal to take a ride to a passenger due to their size was not the worst part of this interaction. Later in the video, the woman threatened to pull her gun on the man if he did not step away from her vehicle.

Who Was In The Wrong?

The internet had mixed feelings about the video. While some were flabbergasted at an Uber driver refusing a rider based on size, others came to her defense. To some extent, the Uber driver was right.  When challenged by Michael, the woman argued that the car was her own. Most drivers use their own vehicle for their Uber work, so she was correct in stating that it was her car. Additionally, Uber drivers have the right to refuse certain passengers; however, their reasoning for doing so must be specific.

For example, an Uber driver can refuse a ride to a passenger if they seem belligerent, are visibly intoxicated, or if there is a safety concern. However, they cannot discriminate against users based on "race, ethnicity, skin color, age, disability, gender identity, marital status, pregnancy, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, language, geographical location, or any other characteristic protected under relevant law."

Therefore, she was in the wrong for judging him based on his physical characteristics. Furthermore, although he was rightfully wounded by her words, his following words were not too friendly. "Are you dead-ss you f-king b-h?" he hollered at her. The venom in his insults only further escalated the situation to the point where the Uber driver threatened to pull her gun out on him.

While I understand her desire to protect herself, having that firearm and threatening a passenger with it also goes against Uber guidelines. According to their website, Uber states the following:

"Riders and their guests, as well as drivers and delivery people, are prohibited from carrying firearms while using the Uber Marketplace Platform, to the extent permitted by applicable law."

The Internet Reacts

Therefore, the Uber driver was in direct violation of Uber's terms of service. A spokesperson from Uber spoke with the Post and informed them that the driver's access to the platform was revoked after the incident. Despite the apparent violation of rules and regulations, many people on the internet still side with the woman. They left comments under the video, such as:

  • "Your sign to lose weight."
  • "She's doing you a favor, get your steps in."
  • "Just get McDonald's delivered instead of Ubering there. Much easier."

Furthermore, others argued that while they can see that she may have been discriminatory, she should have a right to say who does or does not enter her personal vehicle. However, Uber held firm in its opinion.  "Everyone deserves to feel welcome, safe, and respected when using the Uber app, and our community guidelines strictly prohibit discriminatory behavior," they declared.
