Woman Who Failed to Board Cruise Ship Found Dead On Remote Island

A missing woman who failed to board a cruise ship has been found dead. Her body was located on a remote island in Australia.

The startling incident happened on October 26. The 80-year-old woman failed to get back on the cruise ship. According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), authorities later found her body on Lizard Island in the Great Barrier Reef. She had been missing since the day before.

The 80-year-old solo traveller had been a part of Coral Expeditions' visit to the island. She had been part of a group hiking to Cook's Look peak. However, she stopped to rest while the rest of the group continued on without her. Later, she didn't board the cruise ship and was flagged as missing.

According to authorities, the woman appears to have fallen down a cliff. This likely led to her death. Queensland Police confirmed they launched an investigation into the "sudden and non-suspicious death of a missing woman in her 80s."

"Following the operation, Coral Expeditions was notified by Queensland Police that the woman had been found deceased on Lizard Island," he continued. "While investigations into the incident are continuing, we are deeply sorry that this has occurred and are offering our full support to the woman's family."

The company is cooperating with the police.
