Mother Furious After Restaurant Didn’t Kick Customer Out After Their Dog Bit Her Son

A mother was infuriated after a dog bit her son at a restaurant, and the establishment did nothing in response. After her son got up to use the restroom, the small dog nearby decided to take a taste of him. Despite her son having no markings or permanent damage from the incident, the mother was shocked that the restaurant didn't kick the customer out after their dog bit her son.

People Magazine shared the details surrounding this specific case. A mother took to the internet to share her frustration over a restaurant's lack of action. She shared her story on the community forum Mumsnet. She stated that she and her son were enjoying a nice lunch together. During this lunch outing, they opted to sit in the dog-friendly section of the establishment.

Oftentimes, if a dog is in a restaurant or establishment, people assume the dog is friendly. Otherwise, why bring it around people? So, the woman's son thought nothing of it as he pushed back his chair and walked past the dog on his way to the restroom. After all, despite barking at the waiter, the dog had seemed otherwise well-behaved.

The mother admitted that the dog seemed high-strung, but it had eventually settled down. She assumed that the sound of her son's chair scraping against the floor startled the dog. Then, in its startled state, the dog jumped up and bit him. The woman was shocked at the situation. In the forum, she shared, "He hadn't trodden on it or anything, just startled."

However, she wasn't only startled by the dog's actions, but also by those of the owner and the restaurant.

While the woman did admit that her son's skin was not broken and he was able to settle down, she was furious at the lack of response to the situation. She argued that the owner wanted "to pretend it hadn't happened." Then she went on to explain that after she confronted the owners, they just wanted to know if their dog had made her child bleed.

Once they determined that the bite had not broken the skin, they said, "Oh, sorry, the dog must have been startled." Then they went back to enjoying their meal. Afterward, the woman expressed her shock both that the owners didn't do more and that the restaurant didn't kick the customer out after their dog bit her son. Furthermore, she admitted that if her dog were involved in the incident, she would have "immediately taken it out of the restaurant."

Nevertheless, the mother chose to continue her lunch with her child rather than cause a scene; however, many people disagree with her decision. Not only did her friend advise her to report the incident, but the internet also shared its thoughts. 93% of responders voted that the woman did not over-react at all, but instead may have under-reacted. Here are some of the comments left under her story.

"Urm, yes, you underreacted. Thankfully, your DC was okay, but as your friend pointed out, what about the next child who might be smaller and more vulnerable? The owners sound irresponsible and negligent. I'd have been annoyed by their lack of action. However, I cannot see what you can actually do now?"

"It is an understatement to say you 'under-reacted."
