Let's face it, airports are one of the strictest places there are, and for good reason. Although it can be infuriating, the enhanced security protocols help to keep us all safe while in the air. However, some rules seem a bit more necessary than others. Many of these rules were implemented shortly after 9/11 and have stayed in place for decades. However, now airports are changing one surprising rule for the first time in a long time, and people are thrilled.
Airports Are Changing One Surprising Rule

Personally, one rule I have always hated is that guests cannot accompany their flying companions past security. In all the 90s movies, you see families walking their loved ones to the gate. They also waited with them until they boarded. I love that idea, especially because you end up waiting at the gate for quite a while, alone. Luckily for me, this is the one rule that airports are changing.
That's right, folks, now you have the opportunity to accompany your loved one past security - but it is not as simple as it sounds. The NY Post shared that Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport (OAK) in California is one of the first airports to make the adjustment. They will now be "introducing guest passes for non-passengers."
How This Change Will Work
Although the changing of this rule is surprising, you cannot just walk past security all willy-nilly. Instead, the Post shares that "Non-passengers must apply online for security clearance up to seven days in advance of the day they want to visit the airport." After you do that, you should be awarded a pass. Additionally, even if you are not the one travelling, you still need to present a TSA-approved photo ID along with your pass.
Airports changing this one rule is bringing back some nostalgia from the past, and people are excited. Nothing is more thrilling than watching your loved ones' plane take off or land. Also, I can tell you as a frequent traveler, nothing beats seeing your loved ones waiting for you right at the gate. Time will tell how this new rule being implemented goes, but I have a feeling it is going to be a fan favorite.
