A dog in California is facing life-altering injuries after getting its leg amputated. The poor pooch got loose after porch pirates left the gate open while stealing the family's packages.
On December 3, someone stole several packages from the doorsteps of Krystal Altamirano and her boyfriend David Lopez. These were Christmas gifts. Speaking with KTLA, they said the thieves left the gate open. Both their dogs, Sparky and Blazer, got out.
"A few days ago, someone broke into our gate and stole our Christmas gifts. They left the gate open, and because of that, Sparky got out. If that never happened, we wouldn't be living this nightmare," Altamirano said on GoFundMe. While Blazer came home, Sparky did not. The family spent days searching for him.

"When my boyfriend finally found him, Sparky crawled out from under a structure and rolled onto his side as if begging for help. It was absolutely heartbreaking," she said.
The poor incident comes right around the time for Christmas too.
"He loved car rides, playing fetch, tug-of-war and running around with his brother," she said. "All of this could have been prevented if the gate had simply been closed."
Now, the family is trying to chart their path forward.
"Losing our Christmas gifts was already painful... but nothing compares to seeing our dog suffering like this and not having the funds to save him. The timing, the holidays, everything hitting at once—it's overwhelming," Altamirano said in the GoFundMe.
