A father of two is being remembered after dying in a tragic hunting accident. He died after being shot while hunting with a buddy in Louisiana.
According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) and Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office (LPSO), the hunting accident happened on November 29. The father and friend had been hunting in Lafourche Parish on Saturday afternoon when the accident occurred.
45-year-old Garret Verdun died after being shot in the head. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene. According to Verdun's buddy, the two had been walking to a hunting spot. They came across a cattle guard that they had to cross. Verdun then attempted to pass his buddy a rifle. Unfortunately, the firearm went off during the exchange. The bullet struck the father of two in the head, killing him.
Father Dies In Hunting Accident
The LDWF and LPSO are both currently investigating the hunting accident. His family is mourning the loss of Verdun. They described him as having "a heart of gold, always ready to lend a hand or offer a comforting word." They said that he enjoyed spending time with his two children and with his family.
"His life, though too short, was rich with deep relationships and a boundless capacity for love," it continued.
"Garret was an avid outdoorsman at heart. He was gifted with hands of a craftsman and enjoyed carpentry and building things. Above all else, his family was his passion, always putting them first. He will be missed by all who knew him. He had a contagious smile that will be missed beyond words," it continued.
Verdun's daughter, Chloe, also mourned the loss of her father. She said, "I wish more than anything I wouldn't be making this post but I'm so blessed to have shared 19 years with you."
She continued, "I love you forever dad and always will. You will forever be my role model and favorite person. Until we meet again, forever will be your love bug ... please pray for myself, my brother and our family during this devastating time."
