Texas Father Dies After Gun Accidentally Goes Off During Late Night Hunt

Hunting accidents do happen from time to time, and they're always tragic. A Texas father has died after a gun accidentally went off during a late-night hunt. He died from the resulting injuries.

Police confirmed the death of 45-year-old Jose Ramirez. In addition to being a father, he was also a grandfather. Ramirez was participating in a night hunt when his weapon went off. According to KLTV, the Texas father died shortly after midnight. Ramirez was removing the firearm from his car when it went off.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reported that game wardens were on the scene. They attempted to save the man's life. But Ramirez died from his injuries at the scene. After the fatal accident, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department took to social media to release a statement.

Texas Father Dies

"While #TexasGameWardens are trained to investigate hunting-related incidents and work diligently to determine what happened, we always wish a tragedy like this could have been avoided," the law enforcement agency posted on X Sunday.

They also added, "We encourage every hunter to take safety seriously. Always handle all firearms as if they are loaded, keep muzzles pointed in a safe direction, and take time to unload your firearm before placing or removing it from a vehicle."

Ramirez was a father of three. Recently, he also became a grandfather to a little girl who is almost 1 year old. Creating a GoFundMe fundraiser, his son Jose reflected on the kind of father Ramirez was. He said his dad taught him "the most important lessons in life." He will remember his old man for the grit and determination he taught him of life. His father also had a big happy heart and always pursued what he was passionate about.

"My dad meant the world to me," Jose wrote. "He was the pillar of our home, the provider for our family, and the one who always made sure we were taken care of. At the center of his joy was his granddaughter — my niece — who is about to turn one. She was his greatest blessing and the light of his life."

Exactly what happened is under investigation.
