Wild Bobcat Tries To Break Into A Prison

A wild bobcat apparently is tired of being free. Because it recently tried to break into prison.

Typically, prisons have to worry about prisoners breaking out, not wild animals breaking in. However, on December 16, that changed. The Michigan Department of Corrections confirmed a wild bobcat tried to break into the Chippewa Correctional Facility. The animal seemed very determined to get past the gate.

They explained in a Facebook post. They wrote, "This morning Chippewa Correctional Facility had a special visitor!"

"Staff report the bobcat jumped out of the wire, ran around the perimeter, up a maple tree, and hung out for an hour," the post's caption read. "Then he jumped down and ran around the parking lot, where staff, with the help of Michigan Department of Natural Resources, were finally able to corral him off the grounds," they continued.

The corrections department added, "He is now back into the forest to enjoy the snowy day!"

Bobcats typically live in forests, swamps, or brushlands. Prisons aren't a great place for the animal. Fortunately, it left its life of hardened crime behind. This is one jailbreak that the guards were more than okay letting happen. According to the Michigan United Conservation Clubs, the sighting was a rare event. Typically, a bobcat is an elusive predator. That means "most people go their entire lives without seeing a bobcat."

So it's a rare event.

The Department of Corrections commented, "Interested in a career where you can see elusive (and adorable) animals like this bobcat during an otherwise average Tuesday? Chippewa and Kinross Correctional Facilities are now hiring! You can stop by to explore opportunities any time Monday through Friday, 9am-4pm at the Northern Region Training Center at 16708 S. Avon St., Kinross, MI 49788."

So you could too see a wild bobcat or a prison shanking. Doesn't that sound like fun?
